RAISING YOUR OWN RARE BREED PIGS
MUDDY LOVELY is not just about pork it's also about large black piglets! We will soon be breeding Large Blacks in Sussex so if you want to try your hand at pig keeping you can order one of our piglets. The Large Black is a docile pig that loves fuss and attention, so it's perfect for small holdings or big gardens!
The minimum you need to get started is a house, some electric or stock fencing and basic products like bedding and feed. We can advise you on all of this. We are experts on electric fencing - we have to be - chasing pigs around a field is only fun for five minutes. And the large black piglets may look cute when they run - the big ears flop around - but they are quick and have far more energy than most adults! There's a bit of paperwork as well but it's all very straightforward.
It is fun and really rewarding. The large blacks are great and it's easy to bond over pig nuts. You just need to sit with them while they eat and soon they let you stroke them and scratch them. The only downside is, they will try and eat anything...wellies, jeans, jumpers! So you can get a bit mucky.

The Large Black

Breed History
The Large Blacks are known for their size and their big lop ears. The piglets look like miniature elephants from behind!
